You might be thinking, "Wait a minute! Isn't coffee made from coffee beans?” That's true, but we assure you that you can also experience full-bodied, nutty coffee enjoyment with lupins. With one big difference: lupin coffee is naturally caffeine-free but just as delicious! Our coffee alternative is made from lupins grown and processed in Germany, and roasted so that you can brew them into delicious coffee; we opted for a mild roast to get a rather delicate taste. If you like it stronger, then our lupin coffee with spices may be the right choice for you.

Many ways to prepare lupin coffee

The roasted lupin beans can be prepared in various ways. Just like classic coffee, they are suitable for French presses, filter coffee machines or hand filters. We recommend grinding the lupine coffee to a medium grind. If the coffee is ground too finely, there is a risk that the water will not flow through properly during brewing and will instead overflow! When adding the ground powder, it is also important to ensure that you do so loosely and do not compact it, as this will also prevent the water from flowing through. No matter which preparation method you choose, you will need 1 to 2 teaspoons of ground lupin coffee per cup. In general, less powder is needed than with conventional coffee. You can enjoy the finished lupin coffee either on its own, with a plant-based drink and a sugar alternative of your choice, or with our barista oat drink as a vegan cappuccino or latte.

Our organic lupin coffee is made from 100% lupins – legumes that are grown regionally by organic farmers in Germany. After harvesting, the lupins are gently roasted for a coffee alternative that tastes both strong and nutty; its full-bodied taste is in no way inferior to classic coffee and is simply perfect if matched with your favourite plant-based drink!
